Суджин Ли (KR)

Суджин Ли — художница, работающая с языком посредством
комбинаций текста, видео и перформанса. Суджин Ли была
резиденткой в Millay Colony for the Arts, Blue Mountain Center, I-Park,
Newark Museum и в ЦСИ «Заря». Она участвовала в программе
Artist in the Marketplace в Музее искусств Бронкса и в программе
молодого художника Центра современного искусства Aljira. Она
получала гранты от A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship (2012-2013) и SeMA
Emerging Artist & Curators Program (2016). Работы Суджин Ли

Sujin Lee is an artist who makes work about language using a combination of text, video and performance. She was awarded artist residencies from the Millay Colony for the Arts, Blue Mountain Center, I-Park, Newark Museum, and Zarya Center for Contemporary Art. She participated in the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of Art and the Emerge Program at Aljira. She is a recipient of the 2012-2013 A.I.R. Gallery Fellowship and 2016 SeMA Emerging Artist
& Curators Program grant. She exhibits internationally

возможных комбинаций гласных и согласных, которые можно
представить в Юникоде. Это теоретические комбинации для
письменного языка, следовательно, многие из них не используются
в обычной речи или при письме. Ah Ahk Ahk Aht Ahn — серия из 19
одноканальных видео, которые организованы в группы по первой
со-гласной — от «kiyuk» до «heeut». Голос произносит каждую
появляющуюся на эк-ране комбинацию гласного и согласного.
Суджин Ли начала этот проект желая сконцентрироваться
на звуках и формах букв, а также с целью присмотреться к
физическому жесту произношения. Рабо-тая над проектом, она
пережила то же, что чувствовала, когда училась говорить поанглийски — осознание проговаривания звука создается при
помощи собст-венного тела и органов.

11172 is the number of possible consonant-vowel combinations in Korean language (artist's mother tongue), which can be displayed in Unicode. These are theoretical combinations for a written language; therefore, many of them are not used in actual speaking and writing. Ah Ahk Ahk Aht Ahn is a series of 19 single channel videos in progress.
The videos are organized in groups by their frst consonant from «kiyuk» to «heeut». There is a voice pronouncing each consonant-vowel combination shown in the screen. Sujin Lee began this project wanting to focus on the sounds and shapes
of the letters and also to contemplate on the physical act of reading aloud. While working on this project, she re-experienced what she felt while learning to speak English — being very aware of making sound
through one's own body and organs

Озвучка описывает другой голос, который никогда не появится в самом видео.
Черно-белые изо-бражения в видео абстрактны, фрагментированы и распадаются на слои.
Текстуры образов по своим характеристикам напоминают спектрограмму и повествуют о невозможности описания голоса ввиду его эфемерной природы и невозможности запомнить голос иначе, чем на глубинном личном уровне.

This Voice is a single channel video with a voice-over. The voice-over describes another voice that never appears in the
video. The black and white images in the video are ab-stract, fragmented and layered; their textures have sonogramlike qualities. They comment on the impossibility of describing a voice because it has an ephemeral nature and may be
remembered on a deeply personal level.
